In normal circumstances life on board is casual and spontaneous. Our visitors set the pace and determine how much we sail, what activities we seek out, and how relaxed or strenuous they should be. Of course there is always a boat to sail. or just to anchor for lounging and swimming. Almost always there are diving and snorkeling opportunities, verging from good to superb, novice to expert. There are beaches to walk along, and hills to climb, reefs and mangrove swamps to explore by dinghy, and a variety of excellent inland tours and expeditions. There is always swimming in gorgeous clear water. In some places there are cities to investigate and in most places there are interesting local towns and markets. Fishing is often excellent.
Bill Reid In his former life Bill had a small TV production company based in Toronto. During his career in film he received a number of nominations and awards, including an Emmy and a Jules Verne Award for his last production. He then swung out of the fast lane and disappeared into the jungles of Central America where he spent a number of years building a farm and a herd of horses on what was then a remote part of the Pacific Coast. From childhood sailing has been somewhat of an obsession and five years ago he left Central America to became a full-time cruising sailor and live aboard. As mentioned elsewhere herein he has sailed many a mile since then. Deeply hidden in his mind is the thought that he might one day try to take a catamaran around Cape Horn. He never mentions this thought to his buddy, Dwight. Main Interests: sailing, literature, travel, exploration Languages: English, Spanish
Dwight Yachuk Dwight began his life as an adventurer at the age of 2 when he and his dog Pat left the backyard of their country home on a mission of exploration to the next county line. Just to give his mother an even greater scare, a couple of weeks later he left from the front yard and headed in the opposite direction. He was found fast asleep under a peach tree with faithful Pat at his side. Later, residing in Ottawa, Canada, he discovered bicycles and pedaled across much of Canada and Vermont before, with 4 compadres, converting a 15th century nunnery in the Pyrenees, France, into Hotel Le Monastere, a retreat for cyclists, painters and wine lovers. As a member of the Canadian Cycling Association he served on the local, provincial and national governing bodies and published many cycling items including coauthoring Community Cycling Manual for the Canadian Institute of Planners. Wheels gave way to feet again as the Canadian Rockies beckoned and rock climbing and then mountaineering captured his soul. As a volunteer member of the Alpine Club of Canada he served on the local and national boards and completed the ACC Mountaineering Leadership course and went on to organize mountaineering camps in the Rockies for his local ACC Ottawa section. In 2000 he met Lynn and together they decided to explore a new sport together, sailing. After taking cruising and navigation courses from the Canadian Yachting Association his good fortune was to meet up with Bill Reid and sail the north coast of Cuba, across the Atlantic and the Windward Islands with him. Back in Ottawa he races a Kirby 25 waiting his chance to sail Cape Horn with Bill.
Ingrid Marie Vincent Anderson Ingrid is a 22-year-old Danish engineering student. She and Bill met in the Azores where she often works aboard a sports fishing boat. Ingrid is much prettier than either Dwight or Bill. We suspect she is a lot smarter as well. We expect Ingrid on board from February continuing to the Azores in June. While she is aboard all will have an opportunity to improve their fishing techniques.
